If you have followed me for a while, you will know that I have decided to dedicate a blog post each month to one of the amazing Mum-owned local businesses here in Kent. . There are *so* many wonderful businesses here in Kent which are owned and run by incredible local Mums, and I think it is so important to celebrate them and their achievements!!
This month I am VERY excited to introduce you to the lovely (and super talented!!!!!) Kate McDonald, artist, creator and very proud owner of Mama Paints. I recently spent a lovely morning with Kate, and her very cute - but poorly ☹ - sidekick (that’s the reality of Mum/Biz life!)
We chatted about her *amazing* business and I got to see her working her magic on one of her beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces.
I have to say, I am not sure whether she was able to get in the ‘zone’ with me yakking on, but I could have watched her all day…she really does have an amazing talent.
Tell us about your business and what services you offer?
I sell lovingly hand painted artwork and commissions.
My art is bright, colourful and joyful.
I can work with you to create something that fits your decor and style and I love experimenting with different ideas.
What do you offer to your clients that no-one else does?
Art is something that is very subjective. You can find an artist or style and just think ‘That is so me!’.
When I paint, I paint with colours and styles that make me smile and hope that can be reflected to make others happy.
I live in a house of boys so if I can add pink and glitter I’m happy!
The best thing with hand painted art is that there are no two the same and you really are picking up a one-off!
Where does your inspiration come from?
I’m always looking at different ideas all around me and how to make it my own.
There are so many amazing artists around and I am blown away by the talent and how they have grown their following! I began painting whilst recovering from post-natal depression after my second child and I bought me so much peace during a really tough time.
When I am having a bad day, I know if I give myself that time to switch off and be creative it will really make a difference!
What is your favourite part of your job
The feeling when someone compliments or buys my work is like nothing else! I never even thought this could happen when I first started painting.
I love working on commissions for people and seeing it up in their home.
When I paint, everything else switches off and it really is my happy place!
