Around this time last year, I decided to start a little personal project.
As I looked around, I could see *so* many wonderful businesses right here in Kent that were owned and run by local Mums, and I really wanted to celebrate that.
I decided to dedicate a blog post each month to one of those amazing Mums…
To introduce them to you…
…highlight the incredible things, they were achieving…
…and more importantly, show *them* what a fantastic job they were doing.
…and it has been SO lovely.
So, I am *very* excited to introduce you to my first Kent Mum in Business of 2023.
This is the gorgeous Millie, Kent Mum of two and proud owner of Macrame Mummy, specialising in Personalised Knitwear, Home Decor, Flatlay items & DIY Kits.
I recently spent a lovely morning with Millie at her home just outside Maidstone.
As she worked on one of her beautiful macrame pieces and a personalised knit, we chatted about her business and why she loves what she does….
Tell us about your business and what services you offer?
My business started in 2020 when I was looking for some nursey decor for my son. I saw some macrame rainbows and thought 'I could give that a go' so I taught myself how to make a rainbow.
Since then I have expanded to include lots more macrame home decor items, macrame flatlay props, DIY craft kits and more recently personalising knitwear.
Where does your inspiration come from?
I get my inspiration from various places, day to day life, seasonal themes, my own personal taste.
My inspiration to succeed comes from my 2 children. I want to be at home with them and see them grow up everyday and this business allows me to do just that, even though it can be a juggle most days!
What do you offer to your clients that no-one else does?
I get a lot of other small businesses buy from me and one of the reasons is because of my vast range of macrame flatlay props. They love using them in their own photos to advertise their clothing, items etc and I get a lot of custom requests too. I love a custom.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Sometimes I get clothing shops send me unreleased prints for me to make specific items to go with that print. That always feels so special! What's been even more special recently is when I see my personalised knitwear makes being worn, that is always a 'pinch myself' moment!
...that has probably got to be the best part about my job. Well, aside from working from home and getting to be with my 2 littles as much as I can.
